The best way to meet the CFP animal of your dreams is joining us at one of our events! If you'd like to see our animals now, you can see them here. After that, filling out an adoption application is your next step.
The rescue is based in our two operational thrift stores and warehouse. We are working toward opening a facility worthy of our animals. For now, our fosters provide the backbone of Cause for Paws. For more information: Capital Campaign
It can range widely from a week to a few weeks. This is dependent upon the foster animal's popularity on the website, the availability of the applicant and foster home, and the processing of the application. Once an application has been submitted, our team will review the application. Once the application has been reviewed, our team will forward any applications that seem fit to the foster and the foster will have 2-3 business days to reach out to the applicant to talk about the foster animal / set up a meeting. Once the meeting has occurred and all parties are in agreement that the applicant and foster animal are a great fit, they will both send a confirmation email to our Careteam. As soon as Careteam acknowledges this request for adoption, they will send the application to our Adoptions team to start processing. This process may take 5-7 business days, depending on how quickly references respond to Adoptions and how quickly adopters pay the adoption fee / sign the adoption contract. Upon completion, the Adoptions team will then email the foster and adopter together and confirm that the adoption is finalized and the animal can be transferred. Again, this entire process usually takes a few weeks.
Most of our animals will have all their required vaccinations, under NC law, completed by the time of adoption (DHPP-Distemper, Rabies, Bordetella). We do not require any other vaccinations of our animals. Also, any animal older than 6 months will be appropriately neutered/spayed before adoption. Any known medical issues will also be addressed when they are in our care.
Our intake team consists of various folks with various experiences with animals. Our dog intake team typically requires that animals who come into rescue are dog friendly and usually request dog-to-dog interactions recorded on video. Should that not be available, we generally cannot take in an animal. If any intake dog is local, someone from the intake team will go and assess the dog's behavior in person and ask questions to the people who currently possess the dog. Our intake team then shares this information with each other and will decide as a team whether to intake the dog or not.
YES! CFP of NC’s policy is to have all dogs and cats fixed before adoption or shortly after they come of age. Spay’s and Neuters are covered with the adoption unless special arrangements are made based on the animals' health and the situation.
We understand that only some adoptions will work out, but CFP only holds trial adoptions if deemed necessary and is decided on a case-by-case basis. As stipulated in our adoption contract, we require that the adopters reach out to Cause for Paws of NC before rehoming the dog to allow us to take back the dog, should we have the capacity and foster home available within a reasonable amount of time.
Yes, meet and greets are an invaluable tool allowing you and our fosters to gauge the interaction and relationship between your family members with our foster animal. We encourage every applicant to bring every family member (human or furry member) to a meet and greet within reason. Should you choose to bring your pet to a meet and greet, we expect your animal to be current on their vaccinations and appropriately behaved at any location you meet.
Cause for Paws animals come from a variety of backgrounds and sources. However, most of our animals come from local county animal shelters.
